Donating Blood
Filed in Life Logs | Published on 10:29 pm | 15 comments so far | 99 viewsToday I give my blood again, for our experiment. I used to donate my blood several times before to be used in our experiment and all went well. But today, it is more painful than before and I have never felt this kind of pain when donating my blood. What happened, meh?
Most people will give their left hand but in my case, I used to give my right hand because the vein of my right hand side can be seen clearer than the left side. So it will facilitates the officer to withdraw the blood and it will be less painful. But this time, the moment the needle goes into my vein, I was like, having a little shock due to the pain. The inner me says - “Ouch! That’s quite a pain” and again, when the officer withdraw the needle from my vein, I can feel the movement of the needle and it is more painful! Later, the pain does not stop there. It continues like an electrical current. Oh, what had happened today?
My friend said that, if you felt that kind of pain, that’s mean the needle has gone through your blood vessel and later you’ll see a bruise at the point of injection. Is it true? I don’t know myself but just by looking at the point of injection, I know something that had never happened before has happened today. Oh, what I’m babbling about.
I don’t mind donating my blood for experiment because it’s quite… fun. Furthermore, the officer who withdrawn our blood is fun to be with. She is very much older than us but we called her Kakak *takkan nak panggil makcik kan*. She’s from Sarawak. Whenever she has finished withdrawing our blood, she would say - “Bah, next person, please”. I laughed the first time I heard that. Bah is a Sarawakian expression.
She also facilitates us during our labs especially Hematology and sometimes Immunology.
Oh, I hope my hand will recover very soon. I can still feel the pain at the point of injection but not as much as before. ![]()

Niezzam - Darah jenis ape? Cuba la teka. Kalau betul saya belanja makan sebutir nasi. Ehehe…
ni yg takut nak derma darah ni.. dah la ade risiko jangkitan HIV..
Khai, since dah pernah berlaku banyak kali kesilapan masa blood transfusion kan - incompatible lah, HIV infection lah - so skarang ni diorang lebih aware and libatkan banyak proses and tests. Sampai protein yang paling specific but not really have clinical significance pun diorang akan test compatibility. Materials pun memang diorang guna satu untuk setiap orang. Mcm membazir tapi utk safety. Hopefully takkan berlaku lagi kes-kes macam ni. Kalau ada jugak means the particular officer tak cukup pointer.

Kitorang ada buat blood tests ni last semester. Memang leceh dan banyak kerja sebab banyak proses nak kena buat. But along the processes, one by one (test tube containing donor blood) was eliminated until we found one yang the most compatible with recipient’s blood.
usually, the pain is during insertion and withdrawal aje, kalau lepas tu rasa sakit, maybe dia cucuk tak betul .. or nak cepat. but it will be a while. i’ve been through this a few times. do it sebab nak return someting back to the community, tapi .. walaupun dah biasa, takut masa cucuk mash ada, jarum dia besar beb.
A`kum wbt
Aku gerun dgn jarum. Tapi aku suka derma darah. Pantang jumpa tempat suruh derma darah, pasti aku akan sampai.
Lebam kesan derma darah tu biasa la, seminggu lps tu ok la.
Aku derma darah ni pun termakan kata2 orang bahawa badan akan naik. Badan aku cekeding je sampai sekarang.
Haha! Takpe la Syawal, dah cekeding sejak azali kot
pernah donate sekali je..
tapi sekarang dah takmau donate.. berat naik mendadak lepas donate haritu..
jahat tak? ye.. saya memang pentingkan diri sendiri ..

setahu aku laa kn, ‘bah’ tu normally used by Sabahian@Sabahan(xtau mana 1 btol)……eg: “Jangan bah”……kalau org Sarawak@Srawakian, diorg biasenye tmbh ‘K’ kt hujng certain words….eg: dh x ingt laa….
Kak Amrina. Aku ada blogging friend dari Sarawak. He taught me some Sarawakian expressions.
